Latvian / Russian poetry

Alexander Zapol has made a fascinating research, collecting Latvian poems written in Russian. As it turned out, quite a number of Latvian poets have written poems in Russian – not only Aleksandrs Čaks, Jāni Rokpelnis or Inga Gaile – the anthology comprises works by 43 authors. Interesting to note that it begins with poems of Ernst Glück, a significant personality in Latvian culture.

The extensive preface by Alexander Zapol, focusing on the subject that until now has been of little interest to literature specialists, as well as explanations and authors’ biographies are both in Latvian and Russian.
