The Last King

The small detectives Theo, Button and the dachshund Comma continue to investigate hidden secrets of artworks of the most well-known Latvian artists. This time the adventures take place in winter time, a day before Christmas.

"The Last King" is about the artist Voldemārs Irbe, popularly known as ‘Barefoot Irbīte’. Irbīte was a legendary figure of 1920s–30s Riga, an artist whose distinctive, inimitable mode of expression introduced into art a naïve perception of the world, one that convincingly conveyed his outlook.

A day before Christmas, walking along the street, Theo comes across a secret diary. He reads in the small black book about the last king of Riga – a wonderful man who was able to walk barefoot even in winter, to make the blind see again; in poor children’s bleak days he could draw the sun in the sky and make it shine over them and did many other miracles. Yet people of Riga did not believe in miracles – on the Christmas Eve they derided the king, his best works were stolen and he himself was left alone without money and food. The art detectives team – Theo, Poga and Comma – are ready to save the last king of Riga, but meanwhile they will have to solve another task – to find the tiny MiniPoo!
